Is this you, bored at home on a lazy Sunday with not a thing in hell to do? Some people spend their Sunday’s lying outside, or relaxing out by the pool. While others chill out at their local westfields, hoping the $5 rack sale at Supré still stocks those leopard skin tights all the mounty county gals seem to sport. And then there’s those that use their Sunday’s to go out and do something a little more unexpected. Like buying a McFlurry with both mnm’s AND oreos. Oh, you risktaker you. Livin’ life on the edge you are!

But if you’re like me, and you don’t seem to feel the thrill of sitting under the shade of a Koolabah tree, you’re ready for an adventure that’ll get some blood rushing through them veins! We’ve found some fun-filled activities that’ll make you completely forget about Supré’s clearance sale, but instead turn your stale Sunday 360 degrees complete with no regrets.

Whitewater rafting
Where: Penrith Whitewater Stadium, Cranebrook
Website: http://www.penrithwhitewater.com.au/pages/home.asp
Wanna know what’s a paddlin’? Regarded as one of the wildest and most beautiful whitewater rivers in Australia, this crazy adventure will get you totally wet & leave you screaming woooooo-hoooooooooo! With 14,000 liters-per-second of raging whitewater, flowing over a moveable obstacle system, this rafting experience has proven to be one of the most challenging and exciting rides for even the best paddlers in the world.

Wakeboarding
Where: Calebs Wake Park, Penrith
Website: http://www.cableswakepark.com.au/
Wtf’s wakeboarding you ask? Think of skiing on water, or ‘skurfing.’ Heqtiqqqqq, bet you thought that never existed! Attached to an electronic cable ski, you’re propelled to slide over the lake on a board, with ramps, kickers and sliders to manoeuvre around and have some sick moments of air-time if you’re down. Hang tight though, I guarantee this activity will definitely make you feel like you’re living life to the extreme!

Flying trapeze
Where: Circus Arts Sydney, Olympic Park
Website: http://circusarts.com.au/sydney/
I wanna see you be brave! Lol, so challenge yourself today by taking a high flying trapeze class. Swing way above the Earth and experience the true thrill of flying, as you learn to master trapeze tricks such as the knee-hang, the back flip to the net, and the flying catch, just like them crazy circus acrobats do. It may seem terrifying for all you first-timers, but rest assured it’s totally safe and you’ll come out of it with your heart beating a million miles a minute!

Laser Skirmish
Where: Battlefun, Pennant Hills
Website: http://www.battlefun.com/
Lookin’ for an ultimate combat adventure battle that’s both fun and intense, without actual pain and bruises? Bc we ALL know you bruise like a peach. At the battlefun laser skirmish outdoor arena, players get kitted up with army camouflage clothing and are provided with a choice of guns from the armoury before they set out into the bush and muddy battlefield terrain with log barriers, cool forts and bunkers. Great excuse to shoot at that one friend you secretly hate!

V8 Car Racing
Where: Sydney Motor Sport Park, Eastern Creek
Website: http://www.sydneymotorsportpark.com.au/
Strap yourself behind the wheel and drive the fastest you’ve ever driven, in a powerful 450 hp V8 race car, and feel the excitement and g-force of performance racing. This challenging circuit delivers a mix of long straights, tight and tricky corners, rising curves, hills and flats. Be prepared to take it to the max with a no limit drive often reaching 200 kph! P.s. I can’t guarantee how thrilling this activity is. All members of the WestThings crew are still on their L’s so got turned away upon entry LOL

So, this news is just as random as it is for you, than it was for me. But as the title implies, apparently, Parra’s planning to get their own city beach. And no, I ain’t talking bout the twelvie store ‘CityBeach,’ aka the one that always smells like fake sand, has racks upon racks of bright neon Roxy swimsuits and never seems to stop selling those overly chunky DC shoes circa 2008 (yea, u kno the ones). I’m talkin’ bout a beach beach. Aka one with real sand, where you can relax, lie down and bask in the sun. Don’t think it’s legit? Well check out this artist’s impression of the future city beach along the Parramatta River I stole (along with the original story) from Parramatta advertiser lol.

Looks heqtiq ay. According to the article, Parra council’s going to transform Parra river, which is if you’ve ever visited: dirty, smelly, and always full of condoms ew, to this super relaxing, umbrella filled, clean and modern bankside. They also claim to have a strategy to bring the river to life with paddle-boats and kayaks, an open plaza, mini parks, terraced seating and activities such as outdoor cinemas. Eshays brahhhhh. But why the hell in Parramatta you say. Of all the places!? Well, tbh, Parra’s been steppin’ it up HEAPS lately with numerous developments, and if they’re going to transform that nasty ass river to our own little Bondi in the west, then I sure ain’t gna question them! As far as I know, if it’ll save me the 1.5-2hr commute that it normally takes me to get to the beach, then I’m all for it!

Parra river currently                                                                                                                                                                 Source

Parra river future prospects, including pedestrian plazas and terraced seating                                                          Source

But before you get all excited all you lads and lasses out there, I have some TERRIBLE news… The plan is being looked at from the perspective of a 30 year time frame. And let’s be real, if it’s a development in the west, you’re looking at it being unveiled during the thirtieth year at the earliest. Ugh. Was too good to be true right. At least that now gives you an extra 30 years to work on your Summer body? So once you’ve hit 50 and the beach is finally finished, you know you’re gna fkn slay when you walk down the bankside in that bright neon Roxy swimsuit you’d bought circa 2014. No ragrets. But in the meantime, grab a VB from the fridge, blow up and fill that inflatable pool in the backyard, lay back, and keep dreaming.

If you’ve ever travelled around countries across the South Asian and South-East Asian region, there’s one thing you can all collectively agree on (that’s not including the number of mad dashes to the loo). It’s that in experiencing these countries there’s the opportunity to try the new and unexpected, discover something amazing, and ultimately get out of your comfort zone. And you get out of that comfort zone indeed, from seeing their indigenous culture to practicing their traditional customs. But the best, most transformative, immensely rewarding part of visiting these places, is experiencing what seems to be, the literal, non-stop eating of local cuisine.

- literally me -

The thing is that these cultural eats taste so incredibly different from anything you’ve ever tried. Your mouth is overwhelmed with these incredible flavours and sensations, it somehow makes your eyes roll back into your head? LOL. It’s the type of food that makes you stop and say to yourself, why have I never. freaking. tried this before! And in these countries, food is a serious matter. You ain’t gonna walk a street corner without having to resist a stand selling some thing deep fried, or something tasty on a stick!

omg *drools*

Growing up in South East Asia, I admit that restaurants here in Western Sydney can’t truly compare to the distinct cultural taste of these countries, but we’ve found some places that come super super close. I guess I could've closed my eyes, listened to that continuously repeated Asian playlist in the background, and imagined being served by an unpurposely abrupt female waitress … haha, kidding! But if like me, your parents decided to fly home during your final exams, leaving you behind, and you don’t have the funds for that end of semester backpacking trip across Asia, I promise if not for the corny Asian exterior of these restaurants, the dishes alone will make you feel like you’re virtually there.
